Thiago Pierre, a Checkmat Black Belt under Leo Vieira, brings over 20 years of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu experience to Praia BJJ. Originally from Brazil, Thiago’s journey in BJJ began at 14 and became his lifelong passion. A decorated competitor and dedicated instructor, he emphasizes fundamentals, strategy, and individual attention for students of all ages.

Achievements: American Nationals No-Gi Champion, No-Gi Worlds medalist, UAEJJ LA Grand Slam Silver Medalist, multiple IBJJF Open medals, and more.
Certifications: Certified Athletic Coach, Personal Trainer, and Strength & Conditioning Specialist.

Born and raised in the UK, Junior began his martial arts journey at age 7 under the guidance of his father, a former Muay Thai world champion. At 13, he discovered Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with Professor Marco Canha, earning all his belts under him and becoming a 3x IBJJF World Champion.

Now based in Long Beach, California, Junior trains with Checkmat HQ and shares his expertise at Praia BJJ. With his charisma and passion, Junior creates a fun, family-friendly environment while continuing to compete at the highest levels.

Hailing from South Brazil, Professor Andy Meneghetti is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt under the legendary Mario Reis. Now based in Orange County, he brings his unique style and expertise to Praia BJJ, adding fresh techniques and a dynamic approach to the mats.

Judo Head Coach

As our esteemed head coach for our Judo program and assistant coach for the kids’ jiu-jitsu program, Coach Gabriel brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the mats. His passion for teaching shines through as he guides and mentors his students, fostering growth and development both in technique and character.

Beyond his role on the mats, Coach Gabriel is also a dedicated CrossFit athlete and coach, exemplifying his commitment to overall fitness and well-being. Whether he’s on the mats or in the gym, Coach Gabriel’s enthusiasm and expertise leave a lasting impact on all those he encounters.

Coach Chase Duquette began his Jiu-Jitsu journey from day one at Praia BJJ. As a Brown belt under Professor Thiago Pierre, Chase has become one of the prominent faces of Praia BJJ, contributing significantly to the growth of our community. A local of the area, Chase is currently completing his aerospace engineering degree at Long Beach State University. Despite his busy schedule, which includes being married and raising three children, he manages to train almost every day. His dedication to Jiu-Jitsu is evident as he now shares his knowledge with newcomers in our beginner classes. Coach Chase finds great joy in seeing someone step onto the mats for the first time and guiding them as they embark on their Jiu-Jitsu journey. His passion and commitment make him an invaluable asset to Praia BJJ.
