What Praia BJJ's New Harbor Location Was Designed For

Spaces shape the experience of the people inside them. A gym that is cramped, noisy, and poorly lit

produces a fundamentally different training reality than one designed thoughtfully for its purpose. When

we began planning our new harbor location, we started with a simple question: what do our students and

coaches actually need to do their best work? Here is what that question produced.

More Mat Space: The Core Priority

The single most consistent constraint at the Victoria Street location was available mat space. As our

community grew, mat area became the limiting factor on class size, on the number of programs we could

run simultaneously, and on the overall quality of the training environment.

The new harbor location resolves this directly. More mat space means less crowding during rolling, more

room for kids programs to run independently from adult classes, and the physical capacity to continue

growing without ever compromising what happens between training partners on the mat.

Built with Kids Programs in Mind

Our kids programs have become one of the most trusted children's martial arts offerings in Orange

County. The new harbor space was designed with children specifically in mind: appropriate proportions for

smaller bodies, clear sight lines for coaches monitoring multiple pairs, and an environment that feels

purpose-built for the developmental work we do with our younger students.

Parents who have sat in our current lobby understand that the design of a space communicates something

about the intention behind it. A well-designed kids training facility signals that this is serious, and both

children and parents respond to that signal meaningfully.

A Location That Reflects Who We Are

Praia means beach in Portuguese. Our name was not chosen arbitrarily. From the beginning, Praia BJJ

has embodied the connection between the ocean culture of Orange County and the Brazilian art of

Jiu-Jitsu. The harbor area is the right home for that identity. Close to the water, embedded in a communitythat values health, movement, and the outdoors. The new location is not just a larger space. It is the right

space for who we are.

Accessibility Built for Our Actual Community

We designed the new location with the geographic reality of our student community in mind. Our members

come from Costa Mesa, Newport Beach, Huntington Beach, Irvine, and beyond. The harbor area is more

centrally accessible from all of these communities than our current location. Better access means more

consistent training. More consistent training means faster progress. That math directly serves the mission

we built Praia BJJ to fulfill.

Opening July 2026

The new harbor location opens in June. An open house will be held before the official opening so that

current members and interested new students can see the space before regular classes begin. We are

proud of what we built, and we cannot wait to show it to you.

More details coming soon. First class is always free.
